Army Sgt. Arthur Smith Laid To Rest

The Patriot Guard Riders stepped in Wednesday to send off a fallen hero who was laid to rest at the state veterans cemetery in Boscawen.

Army Sgt. Arthur Smith died at 88 with little family left to send him to his final resting place.

The Korea and Vietnam war veteran received a traditional U.S. Army salute on Wednesday.

The Patriot Guard Riders attend funerals of fallen military members, first responders and honorably discharged veterans to show respect for those who have served the country.

“We found out the sergeant being brought in has no family, one son and one caregiver,” said John Irish of the Patriot Guard Riders. “That is all that we have been made aware of, and so, in this case, we feel they deserve a lot more respect than normally happens.”

Smith most recently resided in Bradford, Massachusetts, but was born in Washington, Pennsylvania.
